Why You Should Clean Your Air Ducts

Improve Your Air Quality and Your Health

A clean HVAC system promotes a healthier indoor environment, contributing to added productivity, comfort, and a sense of health and well-being.

According the EPA, the air quality in your home can be anywhere from 2-5 times worse than the air quality outside your home. In fact, the EPA has listed indoor air quality as one of the major threats to Americans' health, with 20% of Americans suffering from allergies caused by substances found in home and office ambient air.

Because our homes are enclosed, dirt, mold, and bacteria are present in the air. When you cook, small particles of grease and food go into the air and into your HVAC system. If you have pets, their hair is pulled into your air system too.

All of these particles, and more, get recirculated through your home on average of 5-7 times each day!

Your air ducts act like the lungs of your home, and as dirt, dust, dander, and chemicals build-up in your home, they travel through your air ducts for you and your family to breathe in.

Zerorez® takes your health seriously, and is committed to helping you create clean and healthy environments, which is why we have taken our same industry-leading innovation and customer service we are known for and applied that knowledge to cleaning air ducts correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my air ducts need to be cleaned?

According to the EPA, you should get air ducts cleaned if there is substantial visible mold growth present in hard surface (e.g., sheet metal) ducts or on other components of your heating and cooling system, if your ducts are infested with vermin (e.g., rodent or insects), or if your ducts are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.

The National Air Duct Association states a typical household should clean its air duct system every 2-5 years. If it has been longer than that time window, your air ducts probably need cleaned, even if you have regularly swapped out your system's air filters.

If you just moved into a new home, just completed a big construction or renovation project in your home, notice an excessive amount of dust collecting in a short period of time in your home, or your home suffered water contamination or damage to the home or HVAC system, it is also a great time to get your air ducts cleaned.

If you suffer from allergies, or have pets that shed high amounts of hair or dander, you'll likely want to clean your air ducts more frequently.

Does Zerorez offer duct cleaning in my area?

Zerorez does not offer duct cleaning at every location, but more locations are offering it all the time. The best way to find out is to call your local franchise, start the online booking process, or visit this page.

Will my entire air duct system be cleaned?

Yes. Zerorez cleans all components of the heating and cooling system and is qualified to do so. We provide a full-service, system-wide clean. We clean your supply ducts and return ducts and the air handling units of contaminants, dirt, and debris . Cleaning coils and blowers is sometimes an additional service.

We also offer an antimicrobial treatment, electrostatic filters, UV purifiers, and coil lamp purifiers at select locations. Be sure to ask for more details about the benefits of these services.

How much does air duct cleaning cost with Zerorez?

Pricing is usually set per heating and cooling system, the size of the system to be cleaned, system accessibility, climactic region, level of contamination, and type of duct material. Zerorez prices vary by location.

To get the most accurate quote for air duct pricing, it helps to know the number of systems you have (A/C units), the size of your home, and the number of registers and returns, as costs are based on these items. Your technician will give you the final quote once in your home as he or she can then properly access your ventilation system size, but you can get pricing information in our online scheduling tool as well.

Does Zerorez clean dryer vents?

Yes, Zerorez also cleans dryer vents, usually for an additional cost. Dryers that vent out to the 2nd floor or higher will need to be assessed on site. Contact your local Zerorez for more details.

Does Zerorez use a duct-camera?

It depends on your location. In the locations where this is offered, we provide video before and after the cleaning so we can provide you with a visual inspection of their air ducts, and using a duct camera is the most effective way to do so.

How long will it take Zerorez to clean my HVAC system?

While there are many factors that determine how long it will take, plan on about 2 hours or more for this service to be completed, per system.

How should I prepare my home for an air duct cleaning?

Please ensure there is easy, unobstructed access to all vents and returns, your HVAC system blower, and there is a place to park out front of your home/driveway. During hot months, we recommend you turn your A/C temperature down for about an hour before we come so your home doesn't get overheated while we are there.

Does Zerorez protect my furniture and home when they clean air ducts?

With the Hypervac system, most of the debris is extracted outside to the our truck, as it uses negative pressure, but are happy to cover furniture upon request and will cover items directly under a vent.

If we are using the Air Wave System, each vent opening is covered by a box unit which collects and extracts away all the dirt and debris. Should any dust or dirt still end up inside your house during the cleaning process, we will clean it up, and can cover items upon request.

We will also use corner guards to protect furniture and walls from our hoses used during the cleaning process.

Does Zerorez have business liability insurance?

Yes. Zerorez is fully insured and licensed as an air duct cleaning professional and carries liability insurance.

How powerful is Zerorez's air duct vacuum?

This will depend on the system we are using. Our Hypervac system is the most powerful and effective vacuum system and moves over 15,000 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute)! Our portable units, Air Wave Air Duct Cleaning, offer 3,000-6000 CFM are also very effective.

How long has Zerorez been cleaning air ducts?

In some locations, Zerorez has been offering professional duct cleaning services for over ten years. In others we are just starting up. Every location is professionally trained and qualified to offer these services and must abide by our Zerorez's high-standards of cleaning and customer service.

Does Zerorez disinfect ducts after they're cleaned?

Zerorez can apply an EPA-regulated antimicrobial treatment, also called fogging treatment, for an additional cost. This product is applied after all the dust and debris has been removed from your HVAC system. We mist the entire air duct system in order to treat it and remove potentially harmful substances and particles.

Does Zerorez create an additional duct access point?

Rarely is it possible to do a thorough duct cleaning by using just the register and grate openings. Additional access points are often created by cutting into the plenum of your HVAC system in order to accommodate a suction hose or cleaning device. We will properly and professionally replace and reseal any and all access holes so they are airtight.

We don't just clean carpets. Zerorez® removes dirt from living spaces where you and your loved ones spend time, creating a clean, healthy home. And, because we don't use soaps, detergents, or harsh chemicals which attract dust and dirt over time, your surfaces stay cleaner longer.
